5 years ago I had no idea what design was. I learned a lot during my time at MSD. Above all, the products that surround us determine our entire life. They have the potential to destroy the world we live in and at the same time fill us with a lot of joy. Today I know that no one knows exactly what design is. For me, it’s definitely not about fancy furniture, but about “purposeful design”, i.e. saving the world!
cyKlop
Conception of reusable deposit packaging for refrigerated shelves in retail.
In Germany, around 18 million tonnes of packaging waste is generated every year. For the most part, this packaging consists of plastics that take centuries to decompose and then sink to the bottom of the sea in the form of microplastics or end up in our bodies. Ultimately, only 5% of plastic waste is processed into new material. Reusable systems offer the opportunity to get to the root of the problem. If only a fraction of the plastic is produced, only a fraction can end up in our environment. cyklop’s mission is to bring reusable products into the refrigerated shelves of supermarkets and discounters. Using cheese packaging as an example, I show that it is possible to supply people with food and produce significantly less waste.
